Just a quick little note... (I'm fine, not going to die or anything, just having some much needed time to myself).
Moving on, I wanted to just write a quick journal to bring something up.
It's apparent to some people that recently in the last month or so I may have featured a couple of Photographs which were later discovered to be Photo Manipulations. First of all, let me just explain myself and say these things happen. I'm not an expert on Photo Manipulation. I don't claim to be an expert on Photography... though I'm definitely more experienced than a lot of people. I make mistakes.
You've no idea how many suggestions the General Photography GM's get which are right on the border between being a Photo manip and being an actual Photo. It's our job to try and determine that, but sometimes we discuss it amongst ourselves and we still can't figure out how the hell the artist did it (if anything, that just means they're damn good at what they do).
Regardless of genre, technique or art category, I stand by the belief that art is art. Maybe I've made a mistake and featured something as a photo which ended up being something entirely different. That's going to happen sometimes and all I can do is have myself or another staff member/volunteer move it to the right category and then move on. People can criticize my judgment and say the artist didn't deserve the Daily Deviation, but that's their opinion. Mean words wont hurt me and they certainly should not be directed at the artist of the work in question. They're not guilty if their work involved photo manipulation, they're just doing art. I don't care what genre it is. Given, I'm looking after Photography and I try and stick to that. But I slip up sometimes. And that's the way it is. We all slip up sometimes. But you gotta forgive us and move on.
