The Bone Church II by PorcelainPoet The Bone Church II by PorcelainPoet
This is a photo I took from inside the Sedlec Ossuary also known as "The Bone Church" outside of Prague, Czech Republic. Unfortunately most of my photos came out pretty grainy because the lighting inside the church wasn't the best. And I realize this image is not the best quality. For me, visiting the Bone Church was the only highlight of visiting Czech Republic. I am very happy I had the opportunity to see it.

"The well-known story of the Bone Church (‘Ossuary’ to be more correct or ‘Kostnice’ in Czech) in Kutná Hora is that, in the 13th century, Jindřich, the abbot of Sedlec monastery, returned from a visit to Palestine with a pocketful of soil and sprinkled it on the cemetery surrounding the Chapel of All Saints. This direct association with the holy land led to the graveyard becoming a sought after burial site among the aristocracy of Central Europe. At the time of the thirty years’ war in the 17th century, the number of burials outgrew the space available, the older remains began to be exhumed and stored in the chapel, and it’s estimated that the chapel now contains the bones of up to 40,000 people." - www.outsideprague.com

Wonderful Series. I am a big fan of the church and these are some of the finest shots I've seen of it. Kudos!

Well thank you! I didn't think they were that great
because I usually aim for higher quality images.
But I was working with a smaller camera and low lighting.
I'm glad you like them! :)

I believe this is the bone version of local aristocrats' coat of arms, including the bottom right part where a raven has just plucked out an enemy's eyeball.

Yes, I think I read something about what that was supposed to represent.
But thank you, I couldn't remember exactly what it was! :)
