Neytiri III by PorcelainPoet Neytiri III by PorcelainPoet
This is NOT a Photo Manipulation! Just because dA is filled with them, doesn't mean this has to be one as well. It's a photograph, the most editing that was done is on the eyes and that does not constitute a Photo Manipulation. She is really blue! It's called body paint and it takes HOURS!

Creative Team

Body Painting by Pamela Grieco
Hair by Ebony
Model is Raven West
Production Design is Shayla of Phantom Light Media
(*TheRoseCourt on dA)

The body painting took probably around 5 hours!

Outfit was done by me and Shayla, I provided the jewelry.
Post processing by me. Shayla gets credit for finding all the people who helped make this possible!
-

Editing is kinda a bitch and I'm OCD. It's hard to get the right "glow" that the movie had. But I think this is decent.

Disclaimer:
I realize not everyone likes Avatar and you could even say the Avatar "craze" has put people off of liking the movie. But I have something to say and that is, I believe any true artist should be able to at least appreciate the visual beauty that this movie has shown us. So please, if you don't care for Avatar that's fine, but simply don't look and keep your comments to yourself. I did this photo shoot for me because I am a fan of the movie.

Avatar fans, I hope you enjoy. :)

This is awesome probably the best avatar costume that is body paint that I've seen. You could be a movie stunt double because it would be cheaper than CGI and paying for the team that makes em.

As an avid Avatar fan I have to say hell yeah. And as someone that has watched the process of body painting...wow. That is a lot of work and very well done. Pamela did one hell of a job. And the outfit and jewelry, a lot of time went into this and it shows. I'd LOVE to be able to craft things onto people or make beautiful things they could wear but that's just not my gift.

But I can still enjoy the results and appreciate and marvel at the work :)

Whoa. Amazing job! Looks absolutely amazing. :jawdrop: 5 hours just for the painting? There's no way I could sit that long. How long did the hair take?

The hair is actually a wig, so that was easy to put on. But we had a designer who created the wig and she had to spend about an hour braiding it. ;)

That's a really interesting take on the body paint, I haven't seen it done like tha tbefore. The whole outfit is very lovely, your model is beautiful, she has a great look for it...

PS I totally agree with you about Avatar comments, it seems everyone wants to have an opinion just because the movie is so popular, yet many of the criticisms fail to even comprehend the degree of artistic manpower that went into the making of the film.

Aww thank you :)
I'm very happy with this series. It wouldn't had been successful at all if it weren't for the body painter's hard work. ;)
Yeah, people who don't like Avatar and think it's "boring" or "unoriginal" are a wee bit close minded in my opinion.
Or they're just blind..... :giggle:

totally agree. I will admit the movie had shortcomings, compared to others that may be more plot intensive etc. etc., but where it lacked in some areas it excelled incredibly in others. It's impressive strengths that I think everyone can and should acknowledge are:

a.) the wealth of creativity needed to combine realistic 3-D renderings with actual footage in order to seamlessly create a whole other living, breathing environment

and my favourite aspect of it

b.) to create within that living environment a believable culture of alien life. The movie's best feature was its ability to showcase the Na'Vi as a complete body of people, from language to attire to traditions to religion, it felt real :).

I'm intrigued, what kind of paint did you use to keep it from smearing? I'm amazed by that. This is so wonderful, it makes me want to at least paint my face. ;D

I can tell you love what you do to go to such lengths, 9 hours plus listening to people who do not appreciate it.

Always remember you will have people to support you no matter how many "haters" there are, so keep doin' what you do, please!

This is great! You've captured the mysteriousness and poise of the navi, which makes up for any nitpicky anatomy details. Of course the painting, costuming, and model are all an awesome match as well =)

Very nice in deed. I know the one said her nose should have been PSed as well but I disagree. The models own nose does it very well. Im guessing by her facial structure shes African-American or atleast part.
Ok,Clicked her info and my guess was correct. We white girls do not have the noses to pull off a convincing Na'vi with out PS.

very nice indeed, and Raven is lovely.

Yes, she's full African American. And very beautiful! I don't think white girls can quite pull off the look either. An African American actress played Neytiri in the movie and we wanted to be as genuine as possible. ;)

Thank you!
