Lovely Nightmares

walking in your sleep
a wonderland of nightmares
sadistic thoughts crowd dirtied streets
children beg for rotten candy

apple trees rot to brown
sunny skies never crack the clouds
yellow teeth form ghoulish smiles
hushed screams rush through broken windows

cracks fill with mud along the ground
rain falls and falls like a battle never won
little boys break mother's porcelain
grandparents roast by the fire waiting to die

blinking lights lose their power
mossy stones smell of old
a clock tower chimes midnight
walking on an old man stares

shattered mirrors lie like broken dreams
whispers carrie on the wind like poems
flowers grow from tears
weeds die from laughter

white hands flutter like a butterfly
a puppeteer mumbles tales forgotten
sleepy children watch birds take flight
shadows create faces washing at the walls

walking in wonderment
the sadness and the love
a world of torment and happiness
tears and smiles fill your mind

nothing more as the sound of silence
numbness makes you still like a drug
crying and smiling all the same
the whole of the world like a little game
